As we near the end of tax season, the IRS wants to remind taxpayers about some tools on their website that can help answer questions. Taxpayers can access Publication 17, the Interactive Tax Assistant, and Where’s My Refund?
In Publication 17, taxpayers will find general rules for filing a federal income tax return. Explanations of tax laws which make sure someone pays only the tax they owe and no more can be found. You can view it on any mobile device that allows eBooks, such as smartphones, tablets, and eReaders. IRS tax products are generally available online six to eight weeks before paper products are distributed. To view and download tax products, use the ‘Forms and Pubs’ tab on IRS.gov.
If you have a tax law question, the ITA provides the answers. You will find question-and-answer sessions on a variety of topics in it. Since it is interactive, users simply respond to basic questions and it helps them find the answers they need. Topics include:
This tool allows taxpayers to track their refund. It can be used on the IRS website as well as with the IRS2Go mobile app for a personalized refund status. Usually, refund statuses can be tracked within 24 hours of e-filing. Where’s My Refund? always has the most up-to-date information available for your refund status. However, it is only updated once a day, so taxpayers don’t need to check more often.
