November 16, 20175 Tips How You Can Make Money on YouTube
When it comes to digital video content, we all know that YouTube is the king of content. When I started my blog, I also created a YouTube channel to host the videos that I create for you. For me, it was another excellent avenue for reaching people to help make their lives financially simple. We’ve all heard these crazy success stories of people making hundreds of thousands of dollars a year from their YouTube videos. Many times I get asked, “Justin, do you make any money off those videos?” So I thought I would share some tips with you guys on how your YouTube channel could help you pocket some extra cash.
With more than 5 billion videos viewed every day, YouTube is the second most visited website in the world. That means there are a lot of chances for your content to be watched and even more money to be made. The highest paid YouTuber, PewDie Pie actually raked in $15 million in 2016. Now, obviously, those results are not typical. However, it does show that using YouTube as a source of revenue is very doable. Here’s how they are doing it.
1. Ad Revenue
YouTube is owned by Google, which is the master when it comes to ad revenue on the web. Search for anything, and you’ll see it pop up in the middle of your screen while reading a Business Insider article or even scrolling through Facebook. When you upload your videos on YouTube, they match ads to the content you are producing. You signup for a Google Adsense account and connect it to your YouTube channel, then if your subscribers and viewers click on an ad, you get paid for every click. Keep in mind, YouTube does have minimum requirements of subscribers and hours viewed before allowing you to make money.
2. Niche Videos
You need to produce content that attracts viewers. Plain and simple. No viewers, no money. Select something you are knowledgeable about though, otherwise, you could fail miserably. For example, I’m a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL™ and I know finances. It’s what I do for a living. So I’m taking my knowledge and sharing it on YouTube, and even here with you guys. You will be more profitable with your niche if you know what you are talking about.
3. Make the Videos
If you don’t start, you’ll never know how much you can make. Just get an iPad or iPhone or whatever your chosen tech gadget is and go for it. The point is to share YOU with others. When I first started playing around with YouTube, the kids and I made a video of us building bat houses; then we shared it on my personal YouTube channel. The kids loved doing it, and now we have that memory there for us to go back and view at any time. I even have this friend whose dad tells the best stories. Now his dad is getting older, and they have these fantastic memories captured on their YouTube channel. Not only that but others are enjoying their dad’s crazy stories—all because they shared with the world. So the key is just to start!
4. Build an Audience
Once you begin, then start sharing the videos on your other social media channels. If your content is entertaining or useful or education, the viewers will come. I put content everywhere that I am! I use my Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, here on the blog. You name it, and I share it. I believe what I’m sharing is relevant to making lives financially simpler.
5. Be Consistent
If you’re serious about making money on YouTube, you have to be consistent. You can’t drop videos sporadically. We share videos on the Financially Simple site once a week. We’re getting ready to start sharing daily short videos. I’m in the middle of starting a podcast. So I’m making sure my content is out there to be found consistently.
Those five tips are what you need to begin. Remember, the more views you get, the more money you’ll bring in. If you can get a video to go viral, then perhaps you’ll become a top YouTube earner. However, even if you don’t rake in $15 million, you can make money on YouTube. Whatever you do, to be successful, you have to do it. And don’t forget to visit the Financially Simple YouTube channel and click Subscribe!
