October 6, 2017My Top Six Financial Podcasts
If you’ve followed me for any amount of time then you know that I’m an avid book reader. I love reading and it truly is one of my favorite pastimes. However, book reading isn’t the only way I keep myself and my business moving forward. I also enjoy listening to a great podcast. So when I can’t reach for a book, podcasts are my go-to educational format. Today, I’m sharing my top six podcasts with you.
My Top Financial Podcasts
1. The Financial Advisor Success
For most of you, this podcast by Michael Kitces may not be the most interesting. While geared toward financial advisors, even if you aren’t an advisor there is still a wealth of knowledge to be obtained from the Financial Advisor Success Podcast and you can learn a great deal from it. I choose to listen to this podcast because I am a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ and Kitces deals with tools to help financial advisors.
Whatever podcasts you choose to listen to, I highly suggest you find one that pertains to your line of business, (dentists, veterinarian, etc.) and soak up all the information you can.
Typically in listening to a career-specific podcast, you will gain great tips on what is working well in your industry. You may find out about things you can purchase to help you grow your business. Knowing what others are doing in your field, keeps you on the cutting edge.
2. Radical Personal Finance
This podcast is by Joshua Sheats. He has very similar credentials to those that I have. However, it’s his out of the box thinking that keeps me on my toes as a CFP®. Although I don’t agree with everything he says, he certainly challenges me to look at things differently. And if you know me, I’m always up for a good challenge.
3. The Truth About Money
Ric Edelman is a well-respected financial guru. He has even earned the title of one of the country’s Top 10 Wealth Advisors by Forbes. His fun and useful podcast details advice on everything from retirement accounts to investing. Edelman’s financial books were one of the first I read when starting out. His company, Edelman Financial, is one of the larger advisory companies in the country, managing over $19 billion!
What’s not to learn from Ric Edelman? For years I have been trying to explain why wealthy people choose not to pay their house off, and Edelman wrote an article about it that articulated it better than anyone else I’ve heard or read.
4. Behavior Gap Radio
The host behind the Behaviour Gap Radio podcast, Carl Richards, talks specifically to financial advisors, but he’s focusing the psychology of money. I love the fact that his podcast is quick and to the point. It is five minutes or less. He uses simple sketches to deal with financial complexities. By the end, you have easy to understand concepts.
5. Money for the Rest of Us
David Stein is the mastermind behind this Money for the Rest of Us, which is definitely the most in-depth of all the podcasts. I sometimes have to listen two or three times to understand the depth of whatever topic he tackles. For the average person, he could possibly lose you on some things. However, what little bit you do catch will help you more than you could have fathomed.
6. Problogger
While Problogger isn’t finance related, I am a blogger. My goal is to craft the “financially simplest” blog you can find. In working toward that, Darren Rowse is a wealth of knowledge when it comes to blogging. He is great at helping you to understand how to reach people. His ingenuity is amazing when it comes to marketing and getting your message out there. I love listening to the ideas in this podcast. They are just phenomenal. I listen, not just for my own business but for my clients’ businesses as well. What I gain from listening to Rowse I pass on to my clients and now you.
And “one to grow own”
7. Financially Simple Podcast
Now that we have a few years under our belt doing the Financially Simple podcast, I have to ours on the list. Very VERY specific to you, the small business owner, we have worked tirelessly to get you the absolute best we can in our goal making your (business) life financially simple. And we are adding more every week, so check back often.
What this means for you…
In summary, if these podcasts don’t seem to give you something to improve your self or net worth, then I challenge you to find one that does. Focus on podcasts that deal specifically with your area of work expertise. Find someone who does exactly what you do and is running the type of business you’re working toward. For example, Ric Edelman’s company is what I am aspiring towards, so I listen to him. In doing so, I’m listening to someone that has been down this road that I am on. It may not be exactly like my path, but it is very similar. So, find the podcasts that challenge you to reach your dreams and listen to them regularly.
